Hello to the newest spring arrival!
My name is Saoirse and I’m delighted to have recently started an Engagement Placement at WWT Caerlaverock. My curiosity for nature was ignited by my rural upbringing in the Scottish Lammermuirs and I pursued a degree in Zoology at the University of Edinburgh before completing a Masters in Conservation and Biodiversity at the University of Exeter in Cornwall.
Already I have become captivated by the wildlife here, especially the little egrets and of course the ducklings and moorhen chicks. Starting in the spring, I’m intrigued to see how the wildlife changes over the summer and into the winter with the return of the whooper swans and barnacle geese.
Working alongside the Engagement Officer, I will contribute to the social media, events, and communications of WWT Caerlaverock raising awareness of the reserve and our work, as well as the work of the wider WWT and the importance of wetland restoration. I’m looking forward to learning more about the different species on the reserve, the work of the different teams to protect and enhance the site, and the importance of the WWT’s work.
The placement aligns with my fascination for the environment and interest in science communication and I’m excited to see what this year at WWT Caerlaverock entails. Please do say hello and feel free to ask me questions when you see me around the reserve!
