Recent Sightings -30th July

This last week provided some good encounters with birds of prey.

On the 21st, the reserve team headed to Powhillon to see and ring some kestrel chicks (under the permit of a licensed ringer). The chicks are quite active and have been monitored for a few weeks now. However, they chose to use an old box, rather than the newer ones put up.

An osprey was seen flying over the Folly pond. Barn owls were also spotted near the entrance of the visitor centre.

As for other bird & wildlife highlights, a quail was heard calling over at Powhillon and a juvenile great spotted woodpecker was seen along with a brown hare on the Peter Scott Trail.
