Sylvie & Colin Dale exhibition

Joining us in the Graffan Gallery for a joint exhibition is ceramicist Sylvie Dale and painter Colin Dale.

Sylvie trained at Harrow School of Art in the 1970s. During this time, she also worked as a repetition thrower for David Leach in his Bovey Tracey pottery in Devon.

Over the years Sylvie has worked with salt glaze and wood firing potters in Wales, America and Scotland, and has even built kilns in her own home.

Making pots has run parallel to Sylvie running a family business, being a mother, and often building a home and gardens. Sylvie has sold her work through craft fairs, shops, galleries and home sales via her mailing list.

Sylvie was also approached by The National Gallery when they were planning a major exhibition of Caravaggio paintings in London. The colours and forms in her work complemented some of the pots in his paintings, and so they chose to display jugs and bowls from her Shino range.

Sylvie is now exploring the world of earthenware and oxidised firings. She has always made pots to be used in the kitchen, and pots for plants, but has also recently enjoyed making one off pieces, that are not necessarily functional.
