The following sightings were recorded today from the reserve at Castle Espie at Mid Tide. The Tern on the raft at the Saline Lagoon is still tenaciously defending its young and saw off a Peregrine falcon on the hunt this morning.

Estuary - visible from the Brent Hide and the Limekiln Observatory

Oystercatcher 2, Curlew 8, Black-headed gull 28, Lesser black-backed gull 1, Little egret 4, Common gull 1

Main lake - visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Mallard 70, , Tufted 8, Black-headed gull 2, Coot 2, Little grebe 1, Swallow 1, Gadwall 5, Lesser black-backed gull 1, Teal 3, Shoveler 5, Little egret 1

Shingle Bank - visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Mallard 45, Black-headed gull 2, Graylag goose 2

Wadermarsh - visible from Wadermarsh lookout and Brent Hide

Black-headed gull 1, Coot 1

Freshwater Lagoon - visible from Brent Hide and Crannog

Saline Lagoon - visible from Limekiln observatory

Little grebe 3, Common tern 2 (chick on raft), Peregrine 1

We have also had more post breeding season birds showing up including Ringed plover, Lapwing and Curlew.
