Recent Sightings €“ 14th May 2018

The following sightings were recorded today at high-tide from the reserve at Castle Espie.  A few Coot families are active in the Freshwater lagoon, demonstrating that Spring is in full swing again.

Estuary – visible from the Brent Hide and the Limekiln Observatory

Black-headed Gull 5, Lesser black-backed gull 2, Eider 3, Herring gull 1

Main lake – visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Mallard 19,  Tufted duck 6, Black-headed gull 156, Coot 2, Moorhen 2, Goldeneye 1, Shoveler 1, Shelduck 1

Shingle bank – visible from Sensory garden, Wadermarsh and Visitor centre

Greylag goose 3, Shelduck 1, Oystercatcher 3, Black-tailed godwit 3, Lesser black-backed gull 3, Moorhen 3, Tufted duck 3, Gadwall 4, Mallard 2

Wadermarsh – visible from Wadermarsh lookout and Brent Hide

Black-headed gull 42, Black-tailed godwit 12, Moorhen 1

Freshwater Lagoon – visible from Brent Hide and Crannóg

Shelduck 1, Mallard 3, Coot 2 with 2 young, Black-headed gull 400, Tufted duck 4, Mute swan 1, Gadwall 1, Lesser black-backed gull 1
