Recent Sightings €“ 16th April 2018

The following sightings were recorded today at mid-tide from the reserve at Castle Espie.  The weather is set to improve this week, and there has been some birds busy nest building during the week, last week.

Estuary – visible from the Brent Hide and the Limekiln Observatory

Black-headed Gull 295, Shelduck 7, Black-tailed godwit 57, Redshank 1

Main lake – visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Mallard 15,  Tufted 25, Black-headed gull 50, Little grebe 1, Shelduck 4, Little egret 1

Shingle bank – visible from Sensory garden, Wadermarsh and Visitor centre

Graylag goose 4, Black-headed gull 288, Mallard 8,

Wadermarsh – visible from Wadermarsh lookout and Brent Hide

Redshank 1, Black-headed gull 75, Shelduck 2, Black-tailed godwit 2

Black-tailed godwits - numbers up to 100 are pushed into the wadermarsh at high tide

Freshwater Lagoon – visible from Brent Hide and Crannog

Tufted duck 2, Mallard 1, Graylag 1,  Black-headed gull 318

Saline Lagoon – visible from Limekiln observatory

Peninsula Field and Saltmarsh

Mute swan 2, Reed bunting 1, Black-headed gull 2, Shelduck 2

Woodland

Blackbird, Wren, Robin, House sparrow, Blue tit, Great tit, Coal tit, Dunnock, Chaffinch

Other

Woodland flowers are starting to show well, including, celandine and wood sorrel
