Recent Sightings €“ 23rd April 2018

The following sightings were recorded today at mid-tide from the reserve at Castle Espie.  The summer visitor continue to arrive and the Black-headed gulls are starting to lay their eggs.  We have also had a few Mediterranean Gulls on the reserve recently.

Estuary – visible from the Brent Hide and the Limekiln Observatory

Black-headed Gull 21, Shelduck 3, Redshank 1, Lesser black-backed gull 3, Peregrine falcon 1

Main lake – visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Mallard 25,  Tufted 15, Black-headed gull 15, Coot 2, Gadwall 3

Shingle bank – visible from Sensory garden, Wadermarsh and Visitor centre

Graylag goose 2, Black-headed gull 135, Mallard 8, Cormorant 1

Wadermarsh – visible from Wadermarsh lookout and Brent Hide

Black-headed gull 115, Shelduck 2, Black-tailed godwit 423, Greenshank 1

Freshwater Lagoon – visible from Brent Hide and Crannog

Flowers are starting to show well, including, primrose, cowslip, celandine and wood sorrel
