CENTRE AREA CLOSURES - TO BE REVIEWED ON WED 6 AUGUST

Due to the continuing wind gusts above 40mph, we will need to keep the east of our site closed, so there will be no access through North Wood or the amphibian pond fox proof gates. We also have a tree that has come down in Wet Wood, so this will also remain closed for now. Our flamingos are to remain off-show. Thank you for your understanding.

Dragonfly nymph

It may not do any migratory miles, but this dragonfly nymph has been on its own #incrediblejourney today, after being rehomed during the clear up of Forgotten Meadow ponds.

We're still busy tackling the invasive Canadian pond weed strangling this habitat but are being very careful as we go, so as to disturb the wildlife as little as possible. This nymph has been moved along with five others today alone!

A dragonfly nymph’s life journey is all the more incredible when you consider that it can spend up to FIVE years under the muddy bottom of a pond, before emerging to shed its larval skin and spend only six months at the most as one of the amazingly colourful creatures that we see on the summer air. Ain’t nature fascinating!?
