WWT Welney will return to normal close Saturday 27 June, but reserve will open early from 7am.

WWT Welney early opening in amber heat warning

Updated times for Saturday 27 June.

To allow visitors to enjoy wetlands at the coolest part of the day we will be opening Welney early from 7am:
Reserve - 7-9.30am
Centre facilities 9.30am-5pm (Last admission at 4pm)
Cafe - 9.30am-4.30pm

We have made this decision to protect the health and wellbeing of our staff and visitors during this period of extreme heat.

Wetlands can act as a shield against extreme weather events, including heat waves, providing protection for both people and for wildlife. So, we will remain open during the cooler part of the day, so visitors can enjoy our wetlands responsibly and our staff can carry out their essential duties, caring for our animals and managing our reserves.

However, the Met Office has issued a red warning for extreme heat, with temperatures building through the day. For the safety of everyone who works at and visits our site, we will close at 3pm (last entry 2pm).

To allow visitors to enjoy wetlands at the coolest part of the day we will also be opening Welney early from 7am.
In response to visitor numbers so far this week adjusted times for Sat 27 June are below:
Reserve - 7-9am
Centre facilities 9am-3pm (Last admission at 2pm)
Cafe - 9am-2.30pm
