Join us daily this summer at WWT Welney for an exciting hands-on nature experience: Pond Dipping!
Dive into the fascinating world of freshwater wildlife. Self-led with all the equipment provided or friendly assistance from our volunteer guides, you’ll explore the ponds and uncover a variety of aquatic creatures, from dragonfly nymphs to diving beetles!
What to expect when you try pond dipping
- Use nets to gently collect aquatic invertebrates, insects, and tiny pond animals
- Examine your finds up close before safely returning them to their habitat
- Zoom in on the tiniest organisms using handheld magnifying glass found in our explorer backpacks
- Learn about the amazing adaptations that help these creatures survive in their watery world
Perfect for families and children of all ages, this drop-in activity is a fun and educational way to connect with wetland nature.
How to take part in pond dipping

| Bring | Water to drink, an adult to help, and your creature-spotting skills! |

How accessible is pond dipping at WWT Welney?
The route to both pond dipping stations is wheelchair, pushchair and mobility scooter accessible. There is a shallow grass slope from the path to the north pond dipping station. For any other accessibility needs, please do get in touch with us.
