Stomp, splash and squelch at Mudfest 2026
Mudfest returns to eight WWT sites for February half term.
Families can go mad for mud at eight WWT Wetland Centres this February half term, as Mudfest returns by popular demand.
Mudfest is the perfect chance for children to grab their wellies, get stuck in with sensory experiences and embrace the outdoors. For one week only, Mudfest invites families to dive into the muddy magic of WWT’s superpowered wetlands and discover just how marvellous mud can be.

WWT Slimbridge, Washington, Llanelli, Castle Espie, London, Arundel, Welney and Martin Mere will all offer a host of hands-on and joyfully messy activities, from cooking up a muddy masterpiece in a mud kitchen to tackling a muddy obstacle course, creating a gloriously messy work of art, to making a wetland bird from clay and natural materials.
More marvellous muddy experiences on offer at the WWT centres include building a mud nest fit for a wetland bird, to examining the fascinating beaks of wetland birds up close. Splashing through puddles of every size, to mixing up a seed bomb with natural ingredients to take home and plant.
Families can also discover the tiny creatures that thrive beneath the surface of wetlands, get competitive in a mudslinging contest and feel the mud between their toes in a barefoot squelch area.
Mudfest is all about embracing the mess and connecting with nature and WWT’s mood-boosting wetlands with hands on, accessible activities. With a single cubic metre of estuary mud holding the same calorific content as 15 chocolate bars – mud isn’t just messy, it’s magical.

Other family-friendly activities on offer at WWT sites this February half term include pond dipping, minibeast hunting and other nature-inspired adventures.
All Mudfest 2026 activities are included with WWT admission, or are free for WWT members.
