Recent sightings - 16th October

The following sightings were recorded today by Maurice Turley and Toni Castello, warden, at mid tide.

Estuary - visible from the Brent Hide and the Limekiln Observatory

A thorough count today, as part of our WEBs counts work. The numbers of some wintering species show a notable increase, very in line with the worsening of the weather conditions in their breeding grounds:

Brent geese 1400, Oystercatcher 470, Curlew 93, Dunlin 24, Knot 6, Little egret 31, Shelduck 134, Black-headed gull 6, Black-tailed godwit 1, Redshank 131, Wigeon 620, Common teal 240, Lapwing 130, Lesser Black-backed gull 2, Cormorant 1.

Main lake - visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Mallard 40, Tufted duck 8, Coot 5, Mute swan 2, Teal 4.

Wadermarsh - visible from Wadermarsh lookout and Brent Hide

Oystercatcher 3. Mute swan 2

Freshwater Lagoon - visible from Brent Hide and Crannog

Saline Lagoon - visible from Limekiln observatory
