Recent sightings – 2nd January 2017

The following sightings were recorded at low tide on the 2nd January 2017.  A cold but clear start to the day at Castle Espie with some familiar and some not so familiar birds spotted on the reserve.

Estuary – visible from the Brent Hide and the Limekiln Observatory

Brent geese 40, Shelduck 400+, Teal 5, Oystercatcher 3, Curlew 5, Black-headed gull 5, Lesser black-backed gull 2, Little egret 5, Cormorant 1.

Main lake – visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Mallard 150+, Tufted 3, Shoveler , Coot 2, Teal 4, Grey heron 1, Kingfisher 1.

Wadermarsh – visible from Wadermarsh lookout and Brent Hide

Black-tailed Godwit, Oystercatcher 1, Black-headed gull 1.

Freshwater Lagoon – visible from Brent Hide and Crannog

Coot 1, Little grebe, Mallard 4.

Saline Lagoon – visible from Limekiln observatory

Black-headed gull 2, Redshank 1, Tufted

Limestone Lake

Mallard 2, Tufted 10.

Woodland

Blue tit 3, Great tit 4, Wood pigeon 10 , Blackbird 2.
