WWT enjoys an evening of celebration at the People’s Postcode Lottery Charity Gala

Celebrating the incredible £1.1 billion raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery for good causes and all that they achieve, WWT was excited to join an inspiring evening at the 13th annual People’s Postcode Lottery Charity Gala in Edinburgh.

Players supported WWT with an amazing £1 million of funding in 2022, awarded by Postcode Planet Trust. This exceptional funding was essential in supporting the delivery of our wide programme of conservation projects in the UK and internationally, as well as helping engage people with nature at our wetland centres across the country.

WWT and many other supported charities, heard from actor, filmmaker and activist Forest Whitaker as he was interviewed by BBC Broadcaster Clive Myrie, before being named this year’s Postcode Hero in acknowledgement of his humanitarian work through The Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative. A partnership project between Alzheimer’s UK and Alzheimer’s Society was named the winner of the innovative Dream Fund and attendees heard how £5 million of player funding will develop a blood test that GP’s can use to detect Alzheimer’s easier and earlier.

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have supported WWT with over £4.8 million since 2015 and the gala was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate this amazing funding and all that it achieves for people, nature and beyond.
