WWT thanks players of People’s Postcode Lottery for over £4.8 Million of support for wetlands

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have now raised over £4.8 million in support of WWT’s work since 2014. In 2022, WWT received an incredible £1 million thanks to funds raised by players, which was awarded by Postcode Planet Trust, one of 20 Postcode Trusts managed by People’s Postcode Lottery.

Funds raised by players are vital to supporting all WWT’s work, through ambitiously pursuing our charitable objectives and responding effectively to opportunities and challenges that the organisation approaches. This flexible support allows WWT to allocate resources where they are most needed and enables us to plan high impact and longer term projects with confidence, both in the UK and internationally.

Player funding also goes beyond backing projects and helps support the day-to-day work of our amazing staff and volunteers, keeping our reserves in the best possible condition for wildlife and engaging people with wetland wildlife through nature-based activities, such as pond-dipping and wild crafts. Player support of events in 2022, such as The Easter Duck Trail and Puddle Jumping, helped encourage children and adults to connect with nature.

Funding from players also helps us influence long-term change through their support of our work campaigning and lobbying for policy change. And helps enable public action for biodiversity, ecosystem services and wildlife protection. With player support, we are able to attend key events and advocate for the benefits of wetlands to those in positions of power.

James Robinson, Director of Conservation:

Thanks to amazing player support we’re able to boost the impact of our work by unlocking further funding and forming partnerships vital to the delivery of so many of our conservation projects, in the UK and beyond.
