We missed you all during lockdown and we hope you’ve kept safe and well. You remain our primary concern, so rest assured that we’re following the latest Government guidance and we are only opening as and when we can do so safely.

What you need to know

To help keep you and our staff, volunteers and local communities safe, we're limiting the number of people who can visit on any one day. And we have introduced a booking system to manage that.

Bookings open every Wednesday morning at 9am for the following week, and you need to book before midnight the day before you’d like to visit.

What can I expect on my visit?

The wetlands and the wildlife that you come to see is all here as usual. However, we’ve rearranged a few things to keep everyone safe.

  • If you have to queue to get in, you’ll be asked to keep two metres apart from the people in front. There will be screens up at the admission desk.
  • We’ve limited access to indoor areas. Some hides are closed completely because they’re just too small. Others are open for a set number of people. Where hides have more than one floor, we’re only opening the ground floor. And we’re keeping the doors and windows propped open so you don’t have to touch them.
  • Our play areas are closed for the moment, and we aren’t running activities such as pond-dipping, walks and talks.
  • Some paths are now one-way to help you keep a safe distance from other households. And we’ve closed some areas where people might naturally gather. Where possible, we’ve removed or propped open gates.
  • Toilets are available but please be aware that we’ve closed some because they’re simply too small. Please ask a member of staff on site if you need directions to the nearest facilities.
  • We’ve increased our cleaning regime, particularly our toilets. And we have plenty of hand sanitiser available around the site.
  • For now we’re not selling grain for you to feed the birds. Rest assured, we’re still feeding them though, so please don’t bring bread or any of your own food for them.
  • Unfortunately for the time being we can’t offer mobility scooters or wheelchairs for hire. You’re welcome to bring your own mobility scooter or wheelchair as usual.
  • We have takeaway food and snacks available to buy. You’re welcome to bring your own food and drink and make use of our picnic areas. We’ve spaced the benches out to keep you safe.

From the experience of the last few months, we know that the situation changes frequently. We do our best to keep the information here on our website completely up to date, but sometimes that’s not 100% possible. You may find that on the day you visit we’ve had to close something, or we’ve been able to open up something that was previously restricted. We hope that doesn’t affect your enjoyment of your day.

So take your time, look, watch and listen, and enjoy being surrounded by nature.

Please note our opening times are currently 10am to 4pm, with last admission one hour before closing.

How do I book?

We’re carefully managing the total number of people who visit on any one day to help keep everyone safe.

Everyone, whether you’re a WWT member or not, must book in advance for the day you wish to visit.

Members

If you’re a WWT member, you can still visit for free, but we need you to book in advance so we can manage numbers. Please ensure you bring your membership card and your booking confirmation with you to gain entry.

You can book your ticket online as usual but be aware that it is only valid for the day you choose.

Pre-existing ticket holders

If you have already bought a ticket and not used it, they’re still valid for 12 months. You don’t have to buy new tickets, but please make a free booking for the day you intend to visit. You will need to bring your original ticket and booking confirmation.

What can I do to help?

Our staff will be on hand but we can all do our bit to help keep everyone safe. We’ve added some specific measures to our standard Code of Conduct to help during coronavirus.

Additional measures during coronavirus

  • Do not visit if any member of your household has symptoms of coronavirus.
  • Follow Government guidance on vulnerable groups.
  • Keep two metres between you and other households.
  • Follow any one-way systems and queuing procedures.
  • Don’t loiter in the buildings. Move through without delay.
  • Check before entering hides and do not exceed maximum numbers. Give way to people exiting.
  • Wash your hands regularly. We have toilets and hand sanitiser points.

Our code of conduct

  • Wear suitable clothing and footwear.
  • Follow instructions given by staff and volunteers.
  • Supervise children and vulnerable adults in your care.
  • Don’t drop litter. Use the bins provided.
  • Consider others and respect wildlife when taking photos.
  • Follow advice and instructions on signs.
  • Don’t go beyond any enclosure barriers, or into areas marked ‘closed’ or ‘staff only’, or enter any water bodies.
  • Do not bring bread or any other food to feed the birds.
  • Do not disturb the wildlife or pick flowers.
