and so we have safety measures still in place

Visit essentials

We know some things can make or break a visit so below are the things you've told us are most important to know before booking.

Avian flu

Avian influenza, often known has bird flu, is commonly carried by wild birds migrating to the UK during the winter months. There are currently new cases confirmed across the UK.

As part of WWT’s comprehensive monitoring of the important populations of wild birds that visit Arundel at this time of year, the government’s Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) have confirmed a case of avian flu (HPA1 H5N1) in a wild bird. We continue to closely monitor the situation.

The UK Health Security Agency advises that the risk to public health from the virus is very low.

Through our concern for birds in our care and those seeking winter refuge on our reserve, and in line with government requirements, we are taking measures to protect birds and to prevent the spread of the disease.

If you find a sick or dead bird at our centre, please do not touch it or pick it up. Please let one of our team know.

If you keep poultry (including game birds or as pets), you should follow the government’s biosecurity best practice advice.
