Plenty of juvenile cattle egrets & cattle

Last Thursday we counted 29 cattle egrets, 16 were juveniles, in the trees and on the islands between the Ramsar hide and the Sand martin hide. You can hear the noise of the young egrets chattering when you walk along the pathway beside the Wildlife garden before the turn to the Sand Martin hide approach.

Two great white egrets are continue to be seen onsite this week, and a little egret.

Kingfisher sighting continue on the Arun Riverlife lagoon and on the Lakes & Forest exhibit.

This list of sightings is based on staff observations from our wildlife hides and are not a comprehensive list of what wildlife is on site. On Wednesday's a count is done across the entire site by one staff member.

Tues 19 August

Ramsar & Sand Martin hide: 8 gadwall 2 pairs, 8 black-headed gulls (6 adults and 2 juveniles), 18 cattle egrets ( at least 10 juveniles), 7 Canada geese, 2 teal, 1 pochard male, 2 coots, 1 moorhen, 20 mallards, 1 female shoveler, c30 sand martins, 3 cormorants, 1 great white egret, 1 wood pigeon.

Reedswamp exhibit: 1 cormorant perched in a tree.

Mon 18 August

Lapwing hide: 1 chiffchaff, 1 wren, 1 robin

Ramsar & Sand Martin hide: 1 pochard, c30 sand martins

Waterside walk: 1 mole

Wetland Discovery: 3 great tits, 2 blue tits, 2 wood pigeon, 1 robin, 1 moorhen

Ramsar and Sand Martin hide: 2 great white egrets, 25 cattle egret – 15 juveniles on the islands, c 20 sand martins

Scrape hide: 1 teal, c10 sand martins

Arun Riverlife lagoon:1 little egret, 1 herring gull, 1 black-headed gull, 6 mallards, 1 kingfisher

Scrape hide: 2 great white egrets

Ramsar and sand martin hide: 29 cattle egrets,

Carpark: 1 kestrel

Reedbed Willow Sphere: 1 female with one duckling.

Lakes & Forest exhibit: 1 kingfisher, 4 common sand pipers (in the evening)

Sand martin hide: 1 shoveler, 1 teal, 6 gadwall, c20 sand martins, 1 little egret, 1 swallow

Ramsar hide: 4 cormorants, 32 cattle egret,1 little egrets, 2 gadwall, c15 linnet

Lapwing hide: 4 bullfinches, 1 water rail calling
