Gozzle Vet Check
Discover our fun-filled play clinic, where children can learn how to handle, measure, weigh and x-ray toy geese – just like our WWT vets do with real birds.
Ever wondered what it’s like to be a vet? To work with amazing animals and help them when they get sick or injured?
Step into our Gozzle Vet Check, put on your lab coat, pick up your record card and prepare to give a toy goose a health check, as part of Gozzle's Wetland Adventure.
When is Gozzle Vet Check running?
Our guided Vet Check station is open daily during school holidays and weekends from 21 March to 31 May 2026.
Weekends: 21, 22 March / 18, 19, 25, 26 April / 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19 May
Easter holidays: Saturday 28 March to Sunday 12 April.
May half term: Saturday 23 May to Sunday 31 May.
What to expect
There are six stations to explore on your way to becoming an awesome animal helper:
1. Too cute to handle? Make sure your feathered friend feels safe and secure in your hands.
2. Beak-a-boo: Use a tape measure to check your patient’s bill for any damage and see if their eyes are working properly.
3. On the web: Measure your goose’s wonderful webbed feet to make sure they’re swim-ready.
4. Ring, ring, ring: Choose if your goose is a boy or a girl. Pop a ring on their right leg for a boy and left for a girl.
5. The weigh-in: Now it’s time to weigh your goose to make sure it’s eating plenty of grass, weeds and algae (yum!)
6. X-ray a nene: Finally, take an x-ray and print out an image to complete your record card – so you can give your patient the all-clear to fly home!
Did you know?
WWT have helped nene (also known as Hawaiian geese) recover from the brink of extinction. Once there were only 30 of these rare birds left in the world. But thanks to our breeding program, thousands of nene now live wild in their Hawaiian homeland once again. You can also see nene flocks when you visit many of our UK wetland centres!
A season of firsts
As well as our Gozzle Vet Check Station, we’re teaming up with Macmillan Children’s Books to explore the wonderful world of wetlands with Julia Donaldson and Sara Ogilvie’s freshly hatched character, Gozzle the gosling. Discover more springtime fun at WWT Llanelli.
