Plan Your Visit: Sunday 8 February

The Llanelli Half Marathon is taking place on Sunday. WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre is open as usual. Access is maintained from the Loughor Bridge side, but the road from the Machynys side will be closed until around 11am. All roads should reopen as normal from 11am. Map and full info here.

Highlights include, Goldeneye, Brimstone Butterfly and Lapwing displaying

British Steel Hide

Small groups of waders have been seen from the Steel hide including, Black-tailed Godwit, Redshank and Greenshank. Large groups of Shelduck and Wigeon are seen on both the Saline Lagoons and Dafen scrapes. Tawny Owls have also been seen in the treeline along the edge of the Dafen scrapes.

Millennium Wetlands

Groups of Teal, Gadwall and Tufted Duck are seen from the hides as well as 10 Shoveler and 8 Pochard. A Goldeneye was spotted on Wednesday on the Lilly Pond. Lapwing have begun courtship displays on the main island on Deepwater lake in the hopes of attracting mates. Great spotted Woodpecker, Long-tailed Tit and a range of other garden birds have been seen around the feeders. Redwing and Song Thrush are regularly seen in the fields on the walk from the center to the Herons Wing hide

A Brimstone Butterfly has been seen from the Herons Wing Hide, our first butterfly record of the year. Hopefully a sign that spring is just around the corner.
