Plan Your Visit: Sunday 8 February

The Llanelli Half Marathon is taking place on Sunday. WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre is open as usual. Access is maintained from the Loughor Bridge side, but the road from the Machynys side will be closed until around 11am. All roads should reopen as normal from 11am. Map and full info here.

Recent sightings 13th-16th October

British Steel hide

Good numbers of waders have been seen during high tide, 890 black-tailed godwit, 339 knot, 25 greenshank, 7 Dunlin, redshank as well as 1 spotted redshank. Also visible from the hide towards the estuary have been 39 shelduck, and on and around the saline lagoons there have been pochard and shoveler. Over on the Dafen scrapes there have been various other birds such as grey wagtail, pied wagtail and meadow pipit. Both hobby and buzzard have been spotted recently over the saline lagoons.

 

Millennium Wetlands

Across the millennium wetlands there have been interesting sightings, jack snipe has been seen on deep water lake as well as spoonbill and pochard. Large numbers of gadwall can be seen over the wetlands, as well as the usual sightings of tufted duck, mallard, teal, shoveler and little grebe. As well as the wetland birds we have also seen 50 goldfinch feeding on alder, song thrush, cetti's warbler, chiffchaff, and 5 redwing that have arrived a little earlier than expected!
