Plan Your Visit: Sunday 8 February

The Llanelli Half Marathon is taking place on Sunday. WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre is open as usual. Access is maintained from the Loughor Bridge side, but the road from the Machynys side will be closed until around 11am. All roads should reopen as normal from 11am. Map and full info here.

Recent Sightings (21st-25th)

Millennium Wetlands

Deep Water Lake is a great place to see birds with recent counts of 41 Mallard, 5 Tufted Duck, 8 Gadwall, Coot, 2 Moorhen, 2 Shoveler and 4 Greylag Geese and 2 Grey Heron. There has also been c.250 Black-Tailed Godwits out on the muddy areas. Around the reserve look out for juvenile birds such as Blackcap and Chiffchaff. From the Heron's Wing Hide you can see groups of passerines including Blue tit, Long-Tailed Tit, Chiffchaff, Dunnock and Bullfinch. A Green Woodpecker has also been heard out on the reserve.

The Grounds and Saltmarsh

From the Observatory hide within the grounds counts of 81 Black-Tailed Godwit, 5 Shelduck, 5 Teal and 21 Greylag Geese have been noted. Around 5 Meadow Pipit and 3 Linnet were seen out on the saltmarsh. At the weekend 1 Little Ringed Plover and a Common Sandpiper were both seen out on the saline lagoon.
