Perhaps the most exciting highlight from this week is the appearance of eight shoveler ducklings on deep water lake for the third year in a row, and tufted ducklings have started to appear too. More broods of lapwing chicks have hatched and they can sometimes be spotted from the screens on centre path. The Mediterranean gulls and great crested grebes are still sat on their nests and the pair of cuckoos are still around. Wader highlights include good numbers of black-tailed godwit and two ruff. The reserve has welcomed some rare Boreray sheep to graze deep water lake island. A very large female grass snake and some foxes have been spotted this week too. Plants to have flowered this week include herb Robert and red campion.
