Chilean flamingos

ℹ️ Flamingos off show
Our flock of Chilean flamingos is currently being housed indoors. This is a temporary measure as a precaution to local avian influenza (bird flu).
We don't know how long this will last but we'll let you know as soon as they are safe to be back outdoors!
Thanks for your understanding.

Artist of the month - Lawrence Patterson

Don’t miss our latest wildlife photography exhibition, on show all month in the main corridor.

Common whitethroat

Lawrence ‘Lol’ Patterson – born and bred in Washington – took up photography as a hobby following retirement and is a member of Gateshead Camera Club.

His striking images include shots of common whitethroat, nuthatch, great-spotted woodpecker and treecreeper; as well as a beautiful waxwing which was snapped on a Jarrow housing estate!

Waxwing

Lol’s mounted and framed photographs are for sale, costing £20-£25, with proceeds kindly going towards WWT’s Spoon-billed Sandpiper fund (http://www.wwt.org.uk/what-we-do/saving-wildlife/science-and-action/globally-threatened-species/spoon-billed-sandpiper/)
