CENTRE AREA CLOSURES - TO BE REVIEWED ON WED 6 AUGUST

Due to the continuing wind gusts above 40mph, we will need to keep the east of our site closed, so there will be no access through North Wood or the amphibian pond fox proof gates. We also have a tree that has come down in Wet Wood, so this will also remain closed for now. Our flamingos are to remain off-show. Thank you for your understanding.

Flamingo update

WA flamingo yoga - downward facing dog
One of the chicks appears to be practicing yoga, with a valiant attempt at 'downward facing dog'!

WWT Washington's Chilean flamingos chicks (or 'flamingilings', as they're affectionately known) have finished hatching and we now have 25 in total!

That's a whole lot of flamingo to hand-rear, but our dedicated staff and volunteers are more than up to the job. You can meet them (as well as their fluffy charges) every day at 1pm at the duckery, when they'll be feeding the bumper brood.

WA flamingo creche
The elder chicks bond in their crèche

While our youngest chick Scarlett is only days old, the eldest are now bonding and socialising in a makeshift crèche, which mimics what they would do in the wild.

Many thanks to our local Carpet Right store for the much-needed carpet samples, which stop their little feet slipping and keep them warm :-)
