It’s not too late to wing your way to WWT Washington’s Dragonfly Festival
Run out of things to do this summer? Anyone looking to keep the kids entertained should head to WWT Washington Wetland Centre, where the unforgettable Dragonfly Festival is still in full swing.

An immersive experience complete with a dazzling line-up of dragonfly-themed activities await festival goers. From pond dipping to dragonfly crafts and den building to walking dragonfly safaris, there's activities to suit everyone’s idea of fun and inspire a deeper connection with wetland nature at WWT Washington.
Allowing the mind and body to wander, there’s lots to explore and experience on our 100-acre reserve. Long summer days at the Dragonfly Festival can involve the whole family, having fun in adventure play areas or listening to special spotlight talks with our animal keepers.
For budding dragonfly experts, now is the time to visit. Dragonflies and damselflies thrive in our wetlands during the summertime, and with our reserve team on hand, you’ll be able to uncover the secret lives of these captivating aerial acrobats, learning more with a vibrant family trail offering the perfect addition to the adventure.
Brand new for the festival at WWT Washington is the Iridescence art installation. Set over water, the installation invites visitors to observe the beauty, grace and importance of dragonflies and their wetland habitats. It features iridescent floating sculptures, composed of wing-like forms that mimic the beating rhythm of dragonfly wings.
A final hoorah in the form of a Family Fun Day is planned this Wednesday (20 August) where a dragonfly stilt walker will roam to meet visitors and pose for selfies, while interactive bubble shows will draw the crowds and entice lots of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’! Two face painters will complement the day, offering some added glamour that's not to be missed!
Deborah Nolan, WWT Washington’s Marketing Manager adds: “There’s lots to do at our Dragonfly Festival this summer. Whether you want to spend quality time with your family or gather friends for a great day out, there’s plenty to take part in, learn from, and explore; all while making precious memories in a beautiful wetland setting.
“Dragonflies are amazing creatures, but don’t just take our word for it, come and see for yourselves.”
The festival runs until 22 September and participation in the WWT Dragonfly Festival at WWT Washington is included with the price of entrance tickets and is free to WWT members.
