Chilean flamingos

ℹ️ Flamingos off show
Our flock of Chilean flamingos is currently being housed indoors. This is a temporary measure as a precaution to local avian influenza (bird flu).
We don't know how long this will last but we'll let you know as soon as they are safe to be back outdoors!
Thanks for your understanding.

Saline lagoon on track with enticing new wildlife

Our new saline lagoon, designed to open up our reserve to the River Wear corridor and the wildlife that inhabits it, has been visited by a roe deer. And it's not even finished!

Wardens out in the grounds spotted the tracks and took the below snaps, the second of which clearly shows the animal's dew claws in the soft mud, suggesting it was running.

The lagoon was recently seeded with wildflower mix and the final shot reveals that it's starting to green up nicely. We'll make a meadow of it yet!
