About the Artist

Deborah in her own words:

I was born and spent the majority of my life in the Cambridgeshire Fens. I have been visiting Welney for more than 40 years. I loved the solitude and sitting cramped in the little fibreglass hides with my first boyfriend!

I saw my first short-eared owl from one of those hides, and my first bittern here too. I still remember a superb guide giving me a really easy ay to tell a Bewick's swan from a whooper swan. I have been forever grateful for that. It has been interesting to see it develop into the superb attraction it now is, whilst remaining a true nature reserve. Also, to see so much that we would not have seen 40 years ago such as avocet, spoonbill, crane, egrets and black-tailed godwit.

Art has become a big part of my life post-retirement, and it was always going to be largely about my love of birds. I now also spend time in Northumberland where I do most of my painting. A lot of my pieces have been based on the work of some superb photographers who post on Nature of the Fens facebook group.

Original artworks are mounted on the wall, with prints available in the browsers - or further prints can be ordered. The small browser has a few unmounted originals as well.
