The black-necked grebe is still present on the reserve and was being seen very well from the (heated!) main observatory this afternoon.

All it takes is for the temperature to rise by a few degrees and the sun to come out and our hares are boxing like mad, the lapwing are soaring and diving over the wetlands and birds were in full song this morning. Water levels are still improving on the

Spring is here despite the cold snap

Lapwing are tumbling over Lady Fen this morning, displaying to one another and investigating the scrapes of land that will be their territories in a few weeks time.  Groups of shoveler and shelduck are also displaying out on the reserve.  Oystercatchers

As water levels improve  at Welney we have now opened the dragonfly pond areas, giving views out across the washes from next to the Reedbed hide which is still currently closed.  This area is perfect for viewing good numbers of wigeon and dabbling ducks
