Hobby & Dragonflies

A Hobby was seen yesterday along with 2 Peregrine, 4 Buzzard and 2 Kestrel. Another sighting of one of the Cuckoos again yesterday. For both the Hobby and Cuckoo the best chance of seeing them is to spend some time aroubnd the reedbed walk area.

Good numbers of Black-tailed Godwit around at the moment with at least 80 birds, also still Little Ringed Plover and Ringed Plover on site. The Lapwing flock is growing and already numbers 200+

The Common Terns are still on Woodend Marsh despite losing thier eggs during the last big downpour, they were seen copulating today so it looks like another attempt is in the pipeline.

At least 2 male Emperor Dragonflies were on view from UU Hide on the small pools by the hide, one of which was seen to catch and then eat a Brimstone Butterfly. Other Dragonflies on the pool include Four-spotted Chaser, Black-tailed Skimmer, Common Darter, Common Blue Damselfly and Blue-tailed Damselfly
