Have an eggcellent time together this Easter

With the Easter holidays just around the corner we’ve got some exciting things going on at our wetland centres. Now is the perfect time to get planning a family adventure.

The days are getting longer and (hopefully) warmer, spring flowers are everywhere and the wildlife is at its most vivacious. The school holidays can be daunting, wondering how to entertain the kids, especially on a budget. Well this Easter leave it to us, at our centres we’ve got fun and adventure covered.

You’ll find plenty to keep everyone happy from our Duck Detective trails, to pond dipping sessions, canoe safaris and some great play areas (under 4’s go free). And our cafes are always open - serving delicious food, homemade cakes and great coffee. Join us for a day out and let them run wild, where they can explore the natural world in safety and experience all it has to offer.

Here are our top tips for a day filled with adventure and fun.

1. Get close to nature together

Put your super sleuth skills to the test on our Duck Detective trail. What secrets will you uncover? If you want to crack the case you’ll need to take extra special notice of the natural world around you, keeping your eyes peeled and your ears pricked for clues. It’s even more fun to work as a team with your family and friends to become a fully-fledged Duck Detective.

2. Easter escape

There’s something about seeing your children running around outside, enjoying the natural world. Getting everyone out there not only makes you feel good but it does them the power of good too. Fresh air, space to run around, a break from the screen and a chance to spend time as a family can all be hard to fit in when school and work take priority. Use this precious time to reconnect with each other and nature, you’ll all feel better for it.

3. Wetlands are forever (not just for Easter)

All year round our centres offer something special – if you’re looking for ways to get the kids outdoors, engage them with the natural world and spend time together as a family, you can’t go wrong with a WWT family membership. You’ll get unlimited visits all year round to any of our 10 sites across the country. They all offer different experiences, unique wildlife and exciting adventures in some of the most beautiful areas of the UK. You’ll find family-friendly events and activities on at the weekends as well as during the holidays, all designed to help you and your family connect with the natural world in an easy and fun way.

4. More than just a quacking good time

We do love our ducks at WWT but a visit to our centres is about so much more. On a day out with us expect to see flamingos (at Llanelli, Slimbridge, Martin Mere and Washington), pelicans (at Arundel) and cranes. Our friendly otters (at Washington, Martin Mere and London) will be delighted to see you too, come and find out all about them from our experts. At Slimbridge our water voles and harvest mice are a treat to watch and the reptiles are positively eye-opening. And for those who can’t resist the treat of a fluffy line of ducklings, goslings and cygnets wandering along behind their parents a spring-time visit is a must – look out for the cheeky one that gets left behind, there’s always one…

5. Get inspired to help your wetland friends

We hope a day out at one of our wetland centres will leave you feeling inspired to not only get out more into nature but also to help us support it. Why not continue your wetland adventure when you get home? We’ve got plenty of great things you can do. How about making a mini wetland habitat in your garden, or creating a pond from an old container? Perhaps you like the idea of your very own toad hall or bug hotel? There’s lots of ideas to get stuck into here, that are fun and support the wildlife around you.
