Around the Caerlaverock reserve, Monday 19th Oct 2015

Whooper Swans, although not yet present in great nos. are becoming increasingly regular at the daily feeds. Two families of birds with cygnets have now turned up. Friends from Iceland inform us that the breeding season for Whoopers in their area was three weeks later than average, which could mean later than usual arrivals here on the wintering grounds

Winter thrushes are finding the plentiful hawthorn berries now, joined in the avenues by a few Linnets and Lesser Redpolls

Still plenty of Barnacle Geese around and amongst them are still the 3 leucistic (white) Barnacles and also the Snow Goose, present this morning on neighbouring Newfield

Today's high tide is at 16:45, 8.3m
