Avocet eggs

Rushy

Lots of action here at the moment. The Cranes are still incubating at the back of the pond (no sign yet of any young). There are 5 Avocets there this morning one pair of which have laid an egg but don't seem to be protecting it very well. A second pair is nest building. The Oystercatcher pair have 4 young and the Black Headed Gulls eggs are starting to hatch. Around 20 Black Tailed Godwit are using the site and an occasional Redshank.

Three Cranes were on the Dumbles and at least 6 pairs of Lapwings are protecting young or still incubating. There are a pair of Little Grebes on the Knott Pool and another between the Robbie Garnett and Stepen Kirk hide. The Great Crested Grebe pair have at least one young on the Long Ground Pool. Distantly on the estuary there is a flock of small waders comprising around 30 Sanderling, 5 Dunlin and 20 Ringed Plover. A few other wader species were found from Mid Point yesterday including Turnstone, Whimbrel and a single Black Tern heading north.
