Bird News

A Green Sandpiper was on the newly scraped scrape at the side of the United Utilities hide.

Yesterday's Spotted Redshank was still in front of the Harrier hide, and a single Black-tailed Godwit toured the reserve, being seen (along with numbers of Ruff and Snipe) from most hides over the course of the day.

Two colour ringed Canada Geese amongst the flock of about 500 on site today were ringed as adult females which were part of a moulting flock at Fellfoot Park, Lake Winderemere, in June of last year

An update on yesterday's Goldfinch flock - the figure of over 300 estimated was probably very low. The constant mixing of birds in the flock means that figures are much harder to estimate than those of for example, Geese, where individuals tend to maintain their position within the flock. Longer and closer views today led to a conservative estimate of closer to 450 this morning.
