Hide disturbance (19 March)
There will be some disturbance at Hawthorn Wood hide on Wednesday 19 March, as our reserve warden and a team of volunteers tidy up and improve the bird feeding station outside. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause you and hope you enjoy

10 avocets on Wader Lake
As of 11.30am we have 10 avocets on Wader Lake! If they all pair off and nest, that's a new site record (we had four pairs last year and in 2012 too) :-)

A week "job-swapping" at Pensthorpe.
This week I was lucky enough to visit Pensthorpe Wildlife and Gardens in order to work and learn behind the scenes. Their warden Kat MacPherson then made her own way to WWT Slimbridge Wetlands Centre for a low-down in flamingo husbandry.

Plenty of action again today, mild in the afternoon as the wind dropped. A good day for raptors for some with male Hen Harrier briefly mid afternoon, male and female Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, 6+ Common Buzzard and Sparrowhawk. At least one Siberian Chiffc

Solar Astronomy Afternoon
Later this month the father of modern observational astronomy ‘Galileo’ will be at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre as part of a special event. The Solar Astronomy Afternoon will take place at the Wetland Centre on Saturday 22nd March between 1pm and 4.
