Hobby and Garganey

Another good day on site with reports of Hobby and fem type Garganey from the Harrier Hide this afternoon, also a Little Egret there. Other birds on view from here included up to 4 Wigeon, family groups of Tufted Duck and Pochard, also 4 Little Grebe (2 adults & 2 juvs).

An increase in waders resulted in a few good counts, now c500 Lapwing, 28 Ruff on site along with 55 Black tailed Godwit, several Common Snipe and a single Common Sandpiper was on the Mere again.

A good day for raptors with a sighting of Hobby, juv Marsh Harrier again, at least 6 Kestrel (2 ad & 4 juvs), 2 Sparrowhawk and 5 Common Buzzard.

The Kingfisher was again seen from Ron Barker Hide at mid-day and a male Yellow Wagtail was also from here. Brown Hares can be seen around the reserve with a bit of luck, and now some of the vegetation has been cut back they should be a little easier to spot.
