New hides going in
Two new wildlife watching hides are being put in place at Steart Marshes over the next fortnight. One will be open for use by mid-July and the other will become accessible when the rest of the path network is opened in the autumn.
The hides are made from former shipping containers, clad in locally sourced timber, and will give visitors better wildlife watching opportunities and protect them from the elements.
The design and location have been decided in consultation with local parish councils and the Steart Residents' Group. They will be fully accessible for wheelchair users.
Once the hides are in place, the paths leading to them will be screened off so that visitors can approach undetected by wildlife. Unfortunately there will be some disruption while the work is being carried out and it will limit access to the viewing area closest the car park, but every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum.
