Searching for that perfectly spooky day out in Lancashire this October half term? Eekish trails, pumpkin carving, canoe ‘scarefaris’, we have it all at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre!

Join us from the 21st until the 29th of October for our eek! week event, and discover a wetland world full of frightening surprises! Take a look at what’s on:

Pond dipping (21 & 22 October)

Our ponds are bursting with creepy crawlies and we want to see how many you can find lurking beneath our waters! Pick up your net and tray for our free pond dipping session, from 1:30 - 3pm.

Pumpkin carving (22-29 October)

Get into the Halloween spirit with our pumpkin carving sessions. We supply the pumpkins and the carving kits, and you create the scariest pumpkin to take home with you! Head to our education centre from 11am - 3pm. £3.50 per pumpkin.


Eek Week at Martin Mere

eek! week trail (21-29 October)

If you think you’re brave enough, pick up your free eek! week trail card from our welcome desk, and creep around our wetland centre identifying the screeching of animals and daring to put your hand inside our mystery boxes.

Arts & crafts (21-29 October)

We’ve got a range of Halloween-themed arts and crafts in our family craft room, open each day 1-4pm. Free and paid arts and crafts available.



guided boat tours at WWT Martin Mere

Canoe ‘Scarefari’ (21-29 October)

Step onto our guided boat tour, or take your own path on our canoes. Either way, get ready for some spine-chilling surprises as you venture on our waters! (Boat tours are bookable in advance). £3 per seat on boat ride, £10 per canoe with up to 3 people.

Children’s Art Worskhops (25 & 29 October)

Our volunteer, Rita, will lead you through making Surprising Skellyfish bookmarks so you can cosy up with a book during the early nights and never lose your place. Why are they surprising? You'll have to come along and find out! Book in advance. Free.

Drawn to Water: Autumn (Now - Dec)

Pick up one of our Drawn to Water illustrated trail cards and explore our seasonal natural highlights, from quiet spots with breathtaking views to close-up wildlife encounters. The season’s highlights include thousands of pink-footed geese and hundreds of whooper swans that fill our mere with amazing sights and sounds - it’s not to be missed!

As part of the Drawn to Water partnership with Quentin Blake, you can also enjoy a unique opportunity to explore some lesser-known works from Sir Quentin Blake’s personal archive, on display at our gallery. Free.
