Pectoral Sandpiper and Temmincks Stint

A Great Bird watch morning this morning. Waders showed very well on the Dumbles, high light of which was a juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper. Also 210 Dunlin, 40 Ringed Plover, 1 Golden plover, 1 Curlew Sandpiper, 4 Little Stint, 7 Sanderling and a Turnstone. At least 5 Wheatear around the Dumbles and along the sea wall to the north along with 2 possibly 3 Whinchat. A number of Pied Wagtails were with wader flock an adult and juvenile White Wagtail among them.

Holden Tower

The above were some what distant but there were Common and Lesser Whitethroat and a Spotted Flycatcher close to the hide.

Zeiss Hide

Some great if distant birding here. A Temmincks Stint was skillfully found in the farthest corner of the scrape, a real challenge to identify even with a quality scope. Also 3 Little Stint, 2 Knot, 23 Ruff, 18 Redshank and a single Spotted Redshank. Two or three Greenshank were very mobile, 3 Green Sandpipers passed through and there were at least 7 Snipe spread around the edges of the scrape. Teal increasing steadily on these east winds 942 counted this morning with 17 Pintail, 16 Shoveler and 2 Wigeon among them.

South Lake

A good count of 98 Shoveler here as well as 147 Teal and 3 Pochard. The adult and young Great Crested Grebe still showing well. The wader flock comprised 65 Black Tailed Godwit and 11 Redshank, also 200 Lapwing.

Others

At least 6 Cranes very mobile around the site, up to 6 Green Sandpipers and 5 Black Tailed Godwit on the Rushy. Pied, Grey and Yellow Wagtails all seen on the roof of the buildings around the Rushy.

Safaris

Looking forward to this afternoons Safari especially if there are as many Buzzards and Hobbies as yesterday.
