Recent Sightings (21st-23rd Feb)

British Steel Hide

Highlights from the hide from the past few days include a Water Pipit (22nd) , a Spotted Redshank (22nd) , a Great White Egret (21st) , 2 Merlins (22nd), 2 Spoonbills (23rd) , a good count of 12 Great Crested Grebes (21st), 3 Red-breasted Mergansers (21st) and an adult Yellow-legged Gull on the 23rd.

Other counts have included 111 Dunlin, 7 Greenshank, 76 Lapwing, 17 Knot, 313 Black-tailed Godwits, 19 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 116 Wigeon, a Stonechat, a Peregrine and a Buzzard.

Millennium Wetlands

Highlight from the reserve included the long-staying female Ring-necked Duck on Deep Water Lake (23rd), a Hawfinch around the site entrance (22nd), a good count of 13 Greenfinches on the café feeders and good numbers of Pochard and Shoveler on Deep Water Lake are always nice to see.

Other birds have included 7 Snipe, 4 Wigeon, 4 Little Grebes, a Buzzard, a Little Egret, 2 Grey Herons, 34 Tufted Ducks, a Stonechat, a Sparrowhawk, a Skylark, 13 Shelduck, 4 Lapwing and 40 Black-tailed Godwits.

Other Wildlife

An Otter was seen on the Deep Water Lake from the Otter information board on the 23rd and a bumblebee of an unknown species was seen on the 22nd.
