Some new migrants and arrivals

The SE breeze and clear skies have allowed for more migration. New birds in today included a Common Sandpiper on the Tack Piece and a Common Tern at South Lake.

Holden Tower

A male Wheatear was on the logs on the Dumbles with 11 Lapwing. On the estuary  6 Wigeon, 4 Oystercatcher, 9 Curlew and a Bar-tailed Godwit were seen over high tide. A pair of Oystercatcher seem set to lay on the scrape islands.

South Lake

2cy Little Gull and an adult Mediterranean Gull among the 250 Black-headed Gulls. The wader scrape held 22 Avocet, 119 Black-tailed Godwit, 5 Lapwing, 6 Oystercatcher, 29 Shoveler and 22 Teal. Some Ruff were among the godwits.

Zeiss Hide

114 Black-tailed Godwit roosted over the high tide period, among them were 7 Ruff, of which 5 were moulting males and beginning to show breeding plumage. 6 Dunlin and a Red Knot were also with them until the flock was flushed by a raptor. 90 Black-headed Gulls had a first and second summer Mediterranean Gull with them. A pair of Pintail and a Wigeon were also present. 2 Redshank, 7 Avocet and a pair of Oystercatcher were also on the flood and islands.

14 Avocets, pair of Oystercatcher, pair of Shoveler, 11 Teal and pair of Gadwall.
