The Big Green Hike 2024

Since 2022 WWT has joined forces with environmental charities for The Big Green Hike – a nationwide sponsored walking challenge to raise vital funds for nature.

Anyone can get involved by registering to take part and choosing to raise money for WWT to restore wetlands and unlock their power.

Many of Britain’s best-loved nature and environmental charities are coming together to encourage us all to walk on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April 2024 to raise money for nature. All partner organisations have unique charitable objectives, but they share the same overall goal: to protect and restore our natural environment.

Back by popular demand, The Big Green Hike is a nationwide sponsored walk that anyone can take part in, no matter where they live, taking place across the weekend of Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April 2024.

Be it 100 metres or 30 miles, hikers choose the distance, the route and environmental cause they want to support. Once registered, hikers will be invited to set up a JustGiving page and collect donations for their chosen charity.

The event is a great opportunity for people to get out into their local area, connect with nature and raise money to help the environment.

We think all wetlands are great. Did you know that just 10 minutes spent by a wetland is enough to boost your mood? It’s win win! While we understand not everyone can enjoy the superpowers of wetlands with us at our centres, you might have a local river, lake, or marsh you can get out to. Everyone has their favourites. We asked our staff, who are all wetland connoisseurs, to think outside the WWT-bog and choose their favourite (non WWT) wetland. Here’s what they chose.

We’d love you to consider WWT as your chosen charity and help support our work to create bigger, better and more connected wetlands.
