Todays sightings
Great birding here again, if only the sun would come out to make it even better. High tides have again flooded the Dumbles drawing thousands of birds in to feed.
Wader Flocks
The waders are constantly on the move, usually between the Tack Piece, Holden and Zeiss. Golden Plover build up through the day usually peaking by midday at around 3000. Lapwing come and go a bit, peaks this morning of around 4ooo birds. Dunlin are more viewable than normal as they come in to feed on the Dumbles 2200 so far today and the one Little Stint is usually seen around the Holden tower Scrape. The Black Tailed Godwit flock roost in front of the Zeiss Hide but feed on the tack Piece, a total of 220 today. Up to 6 Ruff are usually on the Tack Piece with just 17 Redshank this morning. the four Avocets were once again in on the tide and have settled in the Tack piece. Getting close view of the Curlew is a real treat on the high tides, 180 birds this morning.
Wildfowl
Very low counts of Bewicks Swan with only 117 birds roosting mainly on the floods in the Tack Piece. The White-fronted Goose flock are feeding in fields just visible to the north of the Holden Tower. A total of 2500 Teal scan through this morning but no Green Winged Teal as yet. definitely two different birds to look for. Keep trying! The Wigeon are all over the Dumbles at least 3000 here and more in the Tack Piece and from the Zeiss. Diving are all over on the floods, the Feruginous X was on the Rushy briefly and a strange female cross probably a Scaup X Pochard was on the South Lake.
Common Crane
Lots of activity this morning 5 birds were on the Dumbles giving good views whilst they were displaying, a sixth bird was a little further north at the same time. All re-introduced bird from the Great Crane Project released at the Somerset levels.

A Peregrine killed a Golden Plover close to the Holden Tower and a Little Egret flew south past the Zeiss Hide. Cettis were singing at the Zeiss Hide and along the South Finger where Water Rails were also calling. Single Little Grebes were at the South Finger and the Long Ground pool.
