Today's sightings

More departures of wintering birds noted. At least 44 Bewick's Swan remain on site and 231 E. White-fronted Geese. The latter have been very restless today spending much of the time in fields behind hedges out of the wind. A single Tundra Bean Goose and Dark-bellied Brent Goose remain among them.

At least 125 Black-tailed Godwit, 4 Ruff, 1 Little Stint, 600 Dunlin, 80 Curlew, 40 Redshank, 600 Golden Plover, 500 Lapwing were mobile about the wetlands today. Peregrine was seen to take one plover. Six pairs of Oystercatcher are back on territory with three pairs on South Lake alone.

Other notable birds include a Little Gull briefly on South Lake and an adult breeding plumaged Mediterranean Gull seen at the same site and resting on the roads fields.
