Today's Sightings

Wetland bird survey (WEBS) count today so should have some totals for the site tomorrow but clearly almost all of the Waders and winter wildfowl have departed for there northern breeding grounds.

Avocets

At least 9 birds on site this morning split between South lake and Rushy with lots of nest prospecting on the Rushy.

Little Egrets

At least 20 around best numbers from the South Finger but closest views from teh Robbie Garnett Hide.

Kingfishers

Lots of calling around South Lake and possible to pick up passing birds almost anywhere at the moment with 3 possibly 4 pairs on site, but the Kingfisher Hide is still the best bet.

Cranes

Lots of activity especially at the Martin Smith Hide with some great displaying and aggressive interaction there yesterday. Otherwise they are feeding in the fields around the reserve, look from the center observation tower to the north, in front of the Zeiss and Holden Tower Hides and around the road fields on your way in from the canal.

Other species of note

Peregrine 1 still on the dumbles edge.
Shelduck large numbers prospecting all over the site.
Cormorants 6 very handsome summer plumage birds, South lake is best.
Lapwing Many displaying birds from South Finger and Holden Tower.
Black Tailed Godwit 60 increasingly in summer plumage, South Lake is the best.
Cettis Warbler singing all over at the moment.
Chiffchaff the only real signs of summer passerines arriving, at least 3 singing today.
