Todays sightings
Water levels on the reserve are increasing, forcing the wading birds closer to the hides. All the hides are still accessible giving different views across the washes.
This morning a flock of about 300 black-tailed godwits were on one of the islands in front of the main hide, with lapwing using the grassy strip to the right of the hide. Up to 50 dunlin are currently using the pools on Lady Fen closest to the road and the golden plover are choosing this habitat over the reserve now too. Snipe are moving from the reserve onto Lady Fen and a fair few have been seen in the air this morning as they choose the best site to feed on.
Plenty of wigeon are in amongst the whooper swans and geese feeding on the remaining potatoes before these too are submerged. Good numbers of pochard are filling the main lagoon whilst shoveler, teal and pintail can be seen feeding around the islands and spits of land.
