Today's sightings

Lots of ice about the reserve, the ice-free areas are South Lake and Rushy, both attracting large numbers of duck. This update at 1000 am so birds likely to appear during the milder part of the day or to drink. See Twitter for instant updates of bird movements when known.

South Lake

Excellent variety of duck including 182 Shoveler and 143 Pochard, 21 Gadwall, Wigeon, Teal, Mallard, Tufted Duck and Shelduck. Black-tailed Godwit (4), Ruff (1) and a small flock of Lapwing on the ice.

A flock of 18 Siskin and 14 Redpoll were feeding in the Alders.

Rushy

Bewick's Swans c200 and large numbers of wildfowl gathered. To roost and feeds. The swans are heading out to local fields to feed.

E White-fronted Goose flock has gone out to local fields to graze, not sure exactly where.
