Today's sightings/news
Still lots of snow lying about and a re-freeze overnight. Paths are slippery in places but usable with care, all hides are open and accessible. A thaw has occured through the day melting a little more snow and opening some feeding/grazing areas for birds.
The two open water sites are attracting the bulk of the birds, South Lake and the Rushy but the intertidal area of the Dumbles is also worth a look.
The E. White-fronted Goose flock has spent much of the time in the road/canal fields and number c150. The adult and 1st winter Bean Geese are with them.
Flocks of Snipe have been roaming the reserve and looking for feeding areas, many waders have dispersed as they cannot forage and large numbers of duck have moved out of site onto the estuary.
Siskins and Redpolls are still to be found in the Alders and the feeding stations are busy with birds including Water Rail at the Willow Hide.
