Recent Sightings (21st-22nd Dec)

British Steel Hide

Wader counts from the hide have included 740 Black-tailed Godwits, c.200 Curlew, c.550 Dunlin, 114 Lapwing, 19 Knot, 16 Greenshank, 8 Redshank and 1 Spotted Redshank. Wildfowl counts have included 130 Wigeon, 19 Tufted Ducks, c.430 Shelduck, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 3 Gadwall, 2 Shoveler, 11 Teal, 21 Canada Geese and 4 Greylag Geese. Other species have included a Peregrine, a Spoonbill (up until the 22nd), 133 Black-headed Gulls, 17 Goldfinches, 6 Greenfinches, 2 Bullfinches, 4 Little Egrets and a Buzzard.

Millennium Wetlands

Wildfowl on the Deep Water Lake have included 8 Shoveler, 11 Coot, 2 Pochard, 21 Mallard, 54 Gadwall, 92 Teal, 9 Tufted Ducks, 2 Shelduck, 2 Moorhen, 2 Little Grebes and 9 Mute Swans. The female Ring-necked Duck continues its stay on the header pond until the 21st at least. 3 Lesser Redpoll, a Siskin, 2 Brambling and 2 wintering Chiffchaffs have been seen around the reserve. Single Hawfinch sightings are still coming in from various areas around the reserve (up until the 21st). Other species have included 3 Snipe, a Black-tailed Godwit, a Buzzard, a Little Egret, a Kingfisher and 30+ Redwings.
