What is Blue Prescribing?

Blue Prescribing is a form of nature prescribing, administered by healthcare professionals as a social prescription that aims to get people experiencing poor mental health outside and enjoying the benefits of wetland nature.

Please note we are not currently offering Blue Prescribing courses at our sites.

However, you can find support for mental health here for services and organisations that can directly help people experiencing mental health problems.

Previously, our courses were delivered in partnership with The Mental Health Foundation, in Somerset and London. They were delivered over several weeks and enabled people to be active, take notice of wildlife and connect with other people in wetland settings, which all contribute to improving our mental health.

Support our work

While we have paused offering Blue Prescribing courses at our sites, our scientific research in this area of health & wellbeing is a core part of our future strategy, building a growing body of evidence that nature and specifically blue spaces like wetlands are beneficial for our mental health.

If you would like to find out more about how you could possibly work with us in this area. Please contact Dr. Jonathan Reeves, Principal Research Officer (Health & Wellbeing)

"You can literally just come here and stand by the river and listen – it’s like mindfulness. You can just focus on nothing, only on what’s around you. It’s a break from reality. A two-hour holiday."
